Spontaneous Clarity

on

“In today’s world….just kidding, I won’t start like that, it’s too cliche’. Okay, let’s try this again.”

“Hmmm….what am I really thinking about here? Oh right, the point.”

“The point is about working within the moment by what your consciousness decides to latch onto.  Yup, that’s what I wanted to say.”

“Really? That’s it?”

“No, I mean, wait, I can explain more. Here’s the point in a nutshell…I know, cliche’ again…oh well, let’s go with it.”

“Wait, what do nuts have to do with your consciousness latching on to something?”

“Nuts?”, “What the hell are you talking about?”

“I don’t know, you’re the one talking about nuts.  Where did this all begin? “

“Oh, yes.  Well, I forgot I guess.  What was I talking about?”

“You weren’t talking about anything apparently.”

“Fine, I guess I just wanted to make sure you were listening.”

“Seriously?  Of course I’m listening.  I’m you!”

“I know, but I was getting board.  You know, it’s lonely here with no one to talk to.”

“That makes no sense, I’m always here, you can always talk to me.”

“You know what I mean, other, people.”

“You’re not getting it are you?  Everyone, not just myself, is a part of you.  It’s all you, or, I mean, us.”

“Now you’re starting to sound like me.”

“No shit.  That’s because I am you!”

“That’s the point isn’t it.  To be confused, to not know, vs. knowing everything.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, if we, or I, or us, don’t know, or remember that we’re not all one, then there are no limits restricting us to discovering and learning new things.  And, if we do accept, or remember that we’re a part of each other, and still keep an open mind to our false separateness, then we’re capable of being that much more expansive.”

“Sure, that makes sense, I guess.”

“Look, if I accept you, in even the smallest degree of myself, then we both win.”

“As nuts as that sounds, it makes sense.”

“Wait, are you bringing up nuts now?

“Oh boy.  No, no we’re not.

“So you agree then?”

“Yes, but what’s the reason for all of this?  What’s the payoff for talking with yourself and pretending I’m not you?”

“Let me show you.  Are you ready?”

“Sure. Go ahead.”

“Do you love me?”

“What kind of stupid question is that?”

“Just answer it.  Do you love me?”

“Of course I do.  I’m you.”

“Exactly….  That’s the payoff.”

“So what you’re saying is, that if I love you, there’s a sense of inseparable duality that we can both feel, even as the same person, which allows us to embrace the totality of love?”

“Yup. That’s it in a nutshell.”

“Wow, we’re back to the nuts again.  Regardless, there’s really no arguing with what you’re saying.”

“What, that we’re nuts?  Or that you agree?”

“Yes.”

“Ha ha.  Anyway, good, we’ve accomplished something.”

“It certainly appears so.”

“Well, it’s time for bed.  Can you please reach over and turn off the lights?”

“No, you do it, you’re closer.”

“Oh boy. Here we go again….”

I love that conversation, I have it often. It gets really “nuts” when the third voice comes in the room and silently tells the both of you to stop arguing with one another. Peacefully, the situation then turns to gratitude and contentment.
